Race Report:
Pre Race:

I was up bright and early around 3:45, had a little coffee, some whole wheat and peanut butter, and sipped on a Gatorade on my way to Centennial. Got there nice and early, set up, and hung out by the tent hydrating and people watching.

Swim (20:21 - 3/34 AG)
I'm attempting a couple races as a Clyde this year, so wave time was off at 8:01. Got in the water and moved to the front, it was like sitting in a bath with 34 of your close friends. Horn blew and I was off in the lead pack, I had a hard time sighting before the first buoy as the sun was at the perfect angle with a little haze to blind me. Once I made the turn, it became much easier, found a nice bit of open water and just kept the arms churning. Came to the island and turned the jets on, felt like Swamp Thing was trying to drag me under once our twice with all that seaweed.

T1 (2:39 - 5/34 AG)
Jumped out of the water and jogged the whole way in at a good pace, a little too fast as I ran past my rack and down the wrong aisle wasting a bit of time. Made up for this with no wetsuit and going sockless for this race. Should have been a bit faster.

Bike (58:38, 18mph - 7/34 AG )
Got spinning in an easy gear for the first mile to get my legs under me and then started hammering in my 53x13, I really should have been able to gain more ground here. Felt great out the flats and descents, for some reason I was unable to shift to my little ring on the hills, which bit me a little later in the race after hammering up some of the longer hills. 3/4 of the way through felt some tightening in the quads and was hoping it wouldn't effect my run too much. Got a nice little yell as one of our fellow MMTri Clydes breezed by me effortlessly on his pretty Cervelo, I tried to hang but waved bye bye after a mile or so.

T2 (1:17 5/34 AG)
No socks are nice. Took a swig of my Hammer Gel/Water mix and was on my way.

Run (32:10, 9:28 min/mi - 8/34)
Ah running, the bane of my existence. I was in third place going into the run, sadly I'm a terrible runner in the heat. Coming out of transition I felt ok, legs a little tight from the ride. Got my legs under me and made the attempt to get my HR under control for the first mile. I kept making deals with myself that i could stop, breath and stretch once I got to Mile 1, which turned into the next hill, around the corner, etc which kept me moving. I guess I know what I need to work on the most though.

Thanks to all the great volunteers on the course and the support of the other club members, I can't count how many times I got encouraging words out there and those always seem to be the highlight of my events. Post race tent was incredible, it was great meeting so many people. Diamond in the Rough in 2 weeks.
